It could be said in modern promotional literature that Istanbul is so good, they named it three times - Byzantium, Constantinople and Istanbul. Istanbul today, over 2000 years after its foundation, is very much the product of a glorious past. For a while, the city was even the capital of the Roman Empire before becoming 'Istanbul' - capital of the Ottoman Empire.
